Who are we?
The Little Drum Music Group was created early in 2003 and launched with the first class on 8th September 2003.
After a hectic summer of buying, researching, marketing and rehearsing, Little Drum opened with full classes in Ley Hill, Chesham, and Seer Green, Beaconsfield. 3 classes have since opened on Tuesday mornings in Chalfont St Peter.
Most classes are co-delivered, giving plenty of individual support and attention to the 18 children who take part in each session.
Julie, who leads the Little Drum Music Group, is married with 2 daughters and lives in Tring.
The high quality of the music at Little Drum is often commented upon. Julie is most grateful to Philip Sheppard, a Professor of cello at the Royal Academy of Music, for arranging it.
Philip studied the chosen songs with care and then used a variety of instruments to create different moods and sounds which set the scene perfectly, whether marching with a band, chasing away naughty animals or flying with jungle birds!
Philip is the Senior Lecturer in Principles of Education and designed the Academy’s ‘Music in the Community’ course, which Little Drum is proud to be a part of.
Once a year we welcome third year undergraduate students from the Academy to our classes for a week as part of their final degree.
The student brings their specialist instrument which the children enjoy seeing, touching and listening to, we have enjoyed violins, violas, trumpets, trombones, flutes, double bass, piano and many more.
This is a unique and valuable experience for the children, students and the Little Drum.
