What do we do?
Pre-school children aged 6 months to 4 years come along to the weekly sessions with their parent or carer, we are delighted to welcome a mix of Mummies, Daddies, Grandparents and Nannies and we have heard rumour that they fight over who gets to bring the children along!
Each term, we explore a different theme within the session, ‘Down On the Farm’ and ‘Deep In The Jungle’ being two favourites.
Poems are chosen to illustrate the theme and the children get to know a range of songs.
We set the scene and the atmosphere for each theme with our vibrant and eye-catching scenery and the children never quite know what to expect from week to week, providing variety and stimulation that young children crave.
Throughout the year, we also celebrate festivities and changes of season, fireworks and Christmas being particularly popular!
During each session we provide a range of tactile, high quality percussion instruments and puppets, which the children love to come and choose, tambourines, African drums, maracas, hand bells, shakers and woodblocks and cymbals being just a selection that we use each term.
The children are shown how to make various sounds with their instrument and begin to show awareness of rhythm, pitch, volume.
Parents can be reassured that all instruments are cleansed after each use and puppets are washed weekly.
We also use a wide range of colourful props such as silk scarves, picture cards, soft toys etc. to bring our songs to life, the children get very excited at the arrival of our ‘fluffet’ and coloured boxes and love to guess what might be inside!
(And just who lives in the drum?………SORRY! Only Little Drummers know about the drum, you will have to come and see us and lift the lid for yourself!)
Most parents agree that these sessions of uninterrupted quality time with their child really are most enjoyable and provide a positive, happy start to the day.
We hope that our relaxed and happy atmosphere makes the classes enjoyable for the adults too!
